Summer officially arrives this week! So we figured it was only right to share some really tasty treats to enjoy this summer, some cool ones to enjoy on the hot days, and some warm ones to go with cozy evenings. Enjoy!
Chocolate Dipped Bananas
You can’t go wrong with chocolate dipped, frozen bananas as a cool summer treat. They are easy to make which means your little helpers can chip in too. Use bananas that are ripe, but not over-ripe, cut them in half and stick the popsicle stick into the bottom of the peeled bananas, before placing your fruits in the freezer for an hour. Once frozen it's time to dip! For dipping you can use melted dark or milk chocolate depending on your taste, or use Smucker's Magic Shell dipping chocolate (just make sure the bananas are completely frozen first). For toppings use nuts, toffee, sprinkles, coconut or any other tasty combination!
Frozen Float Treats
These creamy pops can be made in Dixie cups. Choose your soda flavour (Root Beer, orange, grape or cherry soda, cream soda, or any other flavor you like. Make room for a tray or plate in your freezer and place cups on the tray. Start by layering vanilla ice cream in the bottom of the cups, filling about a third of the cup. Carefully add your soda so the cup is two thirds full. Place cups in freezer for about two hours or until the soda is almost frozen. Carefully fill the remaining cup with more vanilla ice cream. Place back in the freezer for about 30 minutes and then add popsicle sticks. Return to freezer until they are completely frozen. Enjoy!
I love these treats because you can let everyone customize their cone to their tastes! Start with waffle ice cream cones, prepare different fillings and let everyone choose their own! Some ideas for fillings are: fresh fruit cut into bite-size pieces (strawberries or other berries, bananas, apples) chocolate chips (milk, dark or white), butterscotch chips, graham crackers, peanuts (or other nuts), mini marshmallows, raisins (or other dried fruit). Once the cones are filled, wrap them in tinfoil and place on BBQ (or in the oven) for about 5-7 minutes, turning them over once or twice while you wait. Yum!
For this fun, different treat you will need Stand’N’Stuff type taco shells, your favourite chocolate for dipping, strawberries and bananas, your favourite ice cream sundae topping, and some whip cream or cool whip. To make, start by heating the taco shells in your oven, according to package instructions. In the meantime, melt the chocolate. When shells are done, dip them in the melted chocolate, using a spoon or spatula to coat inside of shells as well. Hold upside down to let excess chocolate drip off, then stand up on waxed paper and let cool until chocolate has hardened. Fill with fresh fruit and top with sundae topping and whip cream!
