8 Whole Wheat Tortilla Roll-Up Ideas

My 10 year old has developed a ravenous appetite as of late. I’m seeing a glimpse of what is to come in his teenage years. Unfortunately he’s also an extremely picky eater, so I’ve been struggling with finding snacks that are filling (now what can I have? is his favourite question it seems) AND healthy. I have found the banana and peanut butter rolled up in a whole wheat tortilla a great option. But when it comes to packing a school lunch, peanut butter of course is a no-no. So I searched for some other ideas, still using the whole wheat tortilla. Here are 8 ideas I came up with. Feel free to tweak and add ingredients according to what your child likes. Hopefully you can find some ideas that your child will enjoy!


Pizza Roll-Up
Spread a little tomato sauce or pizza sauce on the whole wheat tortilla. Layer ham or pepperoni and then cheese (or just cheese depending on your child’s taste). Roll up and slice.
 
Turkey & Cheese Roll-Up
Spread a layer of mayo on the whole wheat tortilla. Layer turkey slices and cheddar slices. Add thinly sliced cucumber, tomatoes or shredded carrots if your child likes them. Roll up and slice.
 
Roast Beef Roll-Up
Spread a thin layer of mustard on the whole wheat tortilla. Add sliced roast beef and shredded lettuce and if your child likes it, green peppers. Roll up and slice
 
Chicken Ranch Roll-Up
Spread a thin layer of ranch dressing on the whole wheat tortilla. Add cooked, sliced chicken breast and any veggies your child likes such as spinach or lettuce, shredded carrots or sliced peppers. Roll up and slice.
 
BLT Roll-Up
Spread some mayo on the whole wheat tortilla. Add cooked slices of bacon, lettuce and finely sliced tomatoes. Roll up and slice.
 
Tropical Chicken Roll-Up
Spread some cream cheese on the whole wheat tortilla. Add cooked, sliced chicken breast, pineapple and if eating at home, cashew nuts. Roll up and slice.
 
Apple Cinnamon Roll-Up
Spread some cream cheese on the whole wheat tortilla. Add thinly sliced apples, sprinkle with cinnamon and drizzle with a bit of honey if desired. You can also add raisins if your child likes them. Roll up and slice.
 
Veggie Roll-Up
If you are lucky enough to have a child who likes their veggies, try this roll-up. Spread a layer of ranch dressing on the whole wheat tortilla. Add thinly sliced carrots, broccoli and cucumber. Roll up and slice.
