Playing with playdough is fun! But did you know it is also a great way for little ones to develop fine motor skills and the muscles in the hand that will come in handy when holding a pencil and writing? It's also a great stimulant for your child's imagination, regardless of age. Since we now know how good it is for your child's development, we wanted to share a really fun, easy and fruity home made playdough recipe: Jello Playdough!
What you need:
1 cup white flour
1 cup warm water
2 tbsp salt
2 tbsp cream of tartar
2 tbsp cooking oil
1 3oz pack of Jello, flavour/colour of your choice
How to make it:
Mix all ingredients together into a saucepan. Keep mixing until nice and smooth with no lumps.
Cook over medium heat, stirring occasionally until it thickens into a ball of dough. This can take a little while, be patient and keep stirring.
Once the ball of dough has formed, place it on a floured cutting board and let cool (about 20-30 minutes).
Once cooled, you can let your child start kneading the dough, adding more flour until it's no longer sticky (about 1/2 cup). You can also add food colouring if you want brighter colours, or glitter for glittery dough.
When your child is done playing, store the dough in an airtight container in your fridge, where it will keep for a few weeks with daily play. If it starts getting sticky, just add some more flour.
